Randomness

Thoughts just before I head to Savannah…

In 25 years, my grandson and all children will be studying the Civil Rights Movement and the needless death & dying, suffering and ignorance wondering just how this could have been. I imagine myself back to 67 and the retreat Dr. Martin Luther King held at The Penn Center months before he was murdered. What he must have been thinking. His last retreat to my home county, Beaufort, and to Penn Center was to focus not on the rights of Black Americans, but to focus on the rights and the plight of all of America’s poor. Martin received much criticism for this shift away from Civil Rights to embrace all of America’s poor. I pray my grandchild will inherit an America that finally realizes Martin’s dream come true. God bless Martin on this day. God bless us all.

The New Year has come and I find myself still whittling away on last years resolutions realizing that we are all works in progress, evolving with our every choice. Yesterday, Cathy and I went kayaking on the Calibogue Bay, which includes a stretch of the Intra-Coastal Waterway. The weather was in the mid- 70’s, light breeze, bright and sunny. It was my first time out with Cathy in the double kayak. I’m glad I made the choice to go out with Cathy, for the afternoon was mesmerizing. Being on the water, inhaling the salty scent of the oysters and ocean and navigating through the marsh grasses and oyster beds left me feeling invigorated and at peace with myself and the world. We witnessed many dolphin swimming around us and got so close to a few that we could hear their calling to each other and feel their dolphin- chatter through the hull of the kayak. We also saw many varieties of birds. Ibis, pelicans, gulls, sand-pipers, cormorants, and a small variety of what looked like baby ducks. It was a beautiful experience and I’m glad to have shared it with Cathy.

Moon River is up and running- even booking business. The Website is slowly taking shape. I’m eager to have it up in its entirety; it’s been a huge investment. We are doing a tradeshow on Tuesday and Wednesday; our first venture into the business world, side by side with other businesses. I received all my collateral materials late last week. The business cards, letterhead and envelopes look very professional. We’re very excited!

Cathy and I are heading to Jamaica on Sunday to do some business and then relax for a while. We are staying with some of Cathy’s associates, friends who live there. Hope to do some whitewater rafting in the mountains of Jamaica as well as catch as much local flavor and music as we can. Really looking forward to the trip.

How about you? How’s the New Year shaping up? Any big plans, new directions, exciting possibilities?

Amin to your prayer for Dr. King.

And good luck on your new business venture :) If you are in Jamaica, try and get to Port Antonio, on the tropical side of island from Montego Bay. There is an island in the bay called Navy Island, which was once owned by Errol Flynn. It was nice and quiet ten years ago :)

Ya Haqq!

Enjoy Jamaica, and don't confuse the Ganga for the Ganja...
...on second thought, what's the difference?
